HEARTBREAKING

I had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to my very special boy yesterday.  His health has been failing for some time.  This photo was taken in June 2011, happy and healthier times.
I know many of you have experienced the loss of a beloved companion so you will understand my need to take a blog break.

CQJP SEPTEMBER COMPLETED

This is my completed September block.  When I visited Judith late August, we discussed allowing the beautiful fabrics to show through in your crazy quilting.  I decided I needed to put this into practice with this block.  So there you have it.  October is almost complete.  Am pondering whether to continue with another two or leave it at that.  Am running out of year so will see.

CQJP SEPTEMBER DAY 4

I have been experimenting with stitching butterflies in different ways over the last number of months.  I started  tracing the butterfly onto a muslin background.  I then straight stitched using two different purple variations with Caron Wildflowers.  The body is three bullion stitches using Wonderfil Dazzle (love this thread!) and added antennae.
Stayed tuned for the final results next week!

CQJP SEPTEMBER DAY 3

Then I played around with a spider web and heart seam treatment with tiny bows!  I'll likely add a spider down the road.
I then added a garland of French knots with some detached chain leaves - very fun to stitch!
More to come....
WISHING ALL MY AMERICAN FRIENDS A HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

CQJP SEPTEMBER DAY 2

I learned how to stitch this lavender when I visited Karen last year!  They are tiny bullions! Makes a nice simple motif.
I played around with some silk ribbon work too!

CQJP SEPTEMBER

I am finally getting caught up with my CQJP 2012 project.  This is my September "before" block.  You will note I did not add any trims or laces to this one.
A short time ago I received this lace hand dyed by Nicki Lee.  You can find her laces in her Etsy shop - Raviolee Dreams.  She had seen me working on this project so dyed this piece.  Perfect!
Thank you Nicki Lee!

HAND DYED THREADS

I have not managed much stitching over the last week.  I've been teaching a class as well as dyeing some more threads for the local store where I sell these.
If you are interested in my threads you can purchase them online at my Etsy store.

DYE EXPERIMENTS

In my recent windfall stash there were many beaded motifs.  The lower one is what these looked like, a pale mint green.  I experimented with painting dye on with the results above.  I think next time I'll take the beads off and see how the motif takes the dye.  One never knows!
Not much stitching this weekend as I was busy dyeing.....

THREAD

When I was in Colorado this summer, Susan (another workshop attendee) had a HUGE selection of threads.  She was kind enough to allow me to purchase a couple which I had not seen here on the west coast.  They are Painter's Threads.  A blend of rayon with a sheen - can hardly wait to stitch something with these.

DYED TRIMS

I must admit, they don't look the best currently but once they are embellished, YUM!  Both are gifted trims.  One was the edging of a pillow case and the other was the edging of a tablecloth.
Stay tuned for what they will look like embellished!
Thanks to all of you who left comments on how to stitch my butterfly body.  I'm practicing and auditioning threads...

HELP

I'm stuck!
I posted this photo of my French knot butterfly earlier in the year.  At that time several of you had left suggestions on how to stitch the body.  I am thinking about satin stitching it but wondered if any of you had photos of butterfly bodies you had stitched.  Secondly, what colour would you choose for the body?
Thank you.

STUDIO ORGANIZATION

It started earlier this summer when I had a massive amount of bead containers stored all over my work space as I'd been adding these to my crazy quilting.  Well, I needed a solution to "contain" the mess.  I pondered for some weeks and came up with this lazy susan which my neighbour kindly made for me.  It isn't fancy as I've not painted it yet but it works.
I will get around to painting it at some point.
Enjoy your weekend!
